No. The IoT module has its own 4G cellular connection. It works anywhere with cellular coverage — remote locations, highway signs, wherever. We provide the SIM card pre-installed and activated.
The $5/month plan covers all control data and diagnostics. It includes 50MB/month which is more than sufficient — sign control uses very little data. The plan is billed annually or can be bundled into the purchase price.
