Acrylic letters?
Acrylic LED letters at the factory cost $20–80 each for front-lit, depending on size and material. I've seen domestic shops quote $400 for a 12-inch letter with a 3mm acrylic face and cheap LED modules. We use Mitsubishi or Degussa acrylic – 90–92% light transmittance, UV-resistant. Materials That Matter – And The Lies You've Been Told
Here's a quick way to spot bad LED modules: look at the solder joints. Dull gray means they used cheap solder that'll fail in 18 months. Shiny silver? That's proper lead-free solder. Quality modules from Samsung or Osram hit L70 at 50,000 hours. Real lifespan over 5 years. Cheap ones die in 12–18 months. UL 48 is the real prize for US customers. It costs $4,000–15,000 per model, takes 4–9 months, and requires quarterly audits. Most Chinese factories don't have it. IP65 sounds impressive. Means your sign survives water jets from any direction. It does NOT mean your sign survives a Florida hurricane. For coastal areas, spec IP66 or IP68. IP68 is submersible – overkill for most, but if you're on the Gulf, don't cheap out.
