The material you pick matters more than most people think. Here is how the common ones actually hold up.
Acrylic is popular because it lets through 90-92% of light and holds up to UV for 5-8 years outdoors. We usually use 2mm to 3mm sheet. If the sign face is over 2.5m, go to 5mm or thicker so it does not flex or crack. Stainless steel gives you a 10+ year outdoor life, with brushed #4 and mirror #8 as our standard finishes. For coastal or corrosive locations, stainless 316 is marine grade and holds up for 15+ years, but it runs about 20-30% more than 304. Aluminum letters are light, rust-proof, and last 8-12 years outdoors. Anodized and powder-coated finishes handle modern designs well.
LEDs are the heart of most electric signs. SMD 2835 modules at 100-150 lm/W are our standard. Use good LED modules from brands like Samsung or Osram if you want a 5+ year lifespan. Color temperature matters too: warm 3000-3500K suits hospitality, neutral 4000-5000K suits corporate and retail, and cool 6000-6500K works for industrial or highway jobs.
One thing I tell buyers: do not choose by looks alone. The cheapest material often costs more to replace later. Ask for samples and certifications before you commit.
Factory pricing is usually much lower than US retail. Retailers have rent, staff, advertising, and inventory costs. Factories run leaner and sell closer to production cost.
For example, front-lit channel letters typically retail for $200-700 per letter in the US, while our factory price is $20-80 per letter. Light boxes from the factory run $80-250 per square meter.
Shipping cost depends on how fast you need the order. Express is 7-15 days and costs $30-100 for small packages. Air freight takes 10-20 days and runs about $4-12 per kilogram. Sea freight is the cheapest at 50-70 days, with LCL at $80-200 per cubic meter and FCL at $1,200-3,000.
Then there are tariffs. Section 301 duties still apply to many sign products. Check the current rate for your product before you finalize your budget.
Production takes 7-15 days after you approve the design. That covers cutting, assembly, wiring, testing, and export packing.
Our process has 10 steps: design confirmation, laser cutting to ±0.1mm, bending and welding, grinding and polishing, CNC cutting the acrylic face, LED assembly, sealing with neutral silicone, aging test, and 100% QC inspection.
Those times assume standard materials and normal order sizes. Complex designs or large quantities can add a few days.
Plan ahead. Rush orders usually cost more or force shortcuts.
