Over a 2.5-meter face, you need 3.0mm or it will oil-can in wind and crack at the welds. For coastal or industrial zones, 316 stainless costs 20-30% more and lasts 15+ years because of the molybdenum content.
Aluminum is fine for 8-12 years if powder coated and not in constant salt air. 316 stainless is the only thing I'd put on Miami Beach without losing sleep.
