Light Box Signage Price: Factory Numbers, Freight, Tariffs, and Hidden Costs
📚 Part of our International Sourcing Guide Read the full guide →

11:47 pm. I've spent six hours on the floor running an aging test on a batch of embedded light boxes heading to a dental chain in Phoenix. My hands smell like neutral silicone, again. And I've got an email from a contractor in Texas asking why my quote is "too cheap." Too cheap. Buddy, you've been overpaying for light boxes since 2019.

Here's what nobody tells you: the price of a light box sign is not the number on the invoice.

The real cost is $80-250 per square meter to the factory, plus the 30% Section 301 tariff, plus sea freight, plus the LED driver that dies in year two if you bought junk. And that's before your installer touches it.

What the Factory Floor Actually Charges

A standard single-face light box runs $80-150 per square meter from our floor in Lu'an. That's aluminum extrusion, UV-stable acrylic, quality SMD 2835 modules at 100-150 lumens per watt, and a Mean Well-class power supply. Not mystery parts from a market stall.

Double that? No.

A double-sided light box visible from the street and the parking lot goes for $120-250 per square meter. The faces are cheap. The second run of LEDs and the beefier aluminum frame are what cost you. Most shops quote it like it's two boxes. It's not. It's one box with twice the guts.

Now, the hollow-out light box: we CNC route letters out of a solid acrylic face instead of slapping a printed film on it. You're paying for labor, not material. $150-250 per square meter is fair. Anything under $120 and I guarantee the routing is sloppy or the acrylic is domestic sheet that yellows in 18 months.

Look, I've seen a domestic fabricator charge $480 per square meter for an embedded light box with the same Samsung LEDs and same 4mm acrylic we ship for $170. By the time the crate lands in Ohio and clears customs, the importer still saved 40-50%. That's not magic. That's overhead and middlemen.

One more thing: our minimum order is one piece. Not twenty. One. If a factory says they need a 10-piece minimum for a custom light box, they're not a factory. They're a trading company.
