Section 301 tariffs on Chinese sign products currently run about 30% for most import categories. That’s real money. Then there’s certification. Any factory can claim “CE certified” because CE is self-declared for most sign components. We actually paid 20,000-50,000 RMB for real CE testing on our power supplies. Ask to see the certificate with today’s date. For the U.S., UL 48 recognition costs anywhere from $4,000 to $15,000 and takes 4-9 months with quarterly audits. If your municipality requires UL-listed signs, we can arrange it — but be prepared for the cost and lead time. More often, we use ETL, which is 10-30% cheaper and accepted by most authorities.
IP ratings cause confusion too. IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets. That’s the minimum for outdoor use. It does NOT mean your sign survives a hurricane. For coastal areas, we recommend IP66 or even IP68 if the sign might be submerged. We’ve had customers ignore this, then call us after a storm. I’ll be blunt: we can’t guarantee against acts of God.

If you want the absolute cheapest price, there are factories in China that’ll use recycled acrylic and the thinnest possible steel. That acrylic will yellow in 1-2 years. The LEDs will fail within 12-18 months. I refuse to put my team’s work into something that’ll embarrass you. We use Mitsubishi or Degussa UV-resistant acrylic with 5-8 years before yellowing. Our quality LED modules (Samsung, Osram, or blue-scape) have a real-world lifespan of 5+ years. The warranty reflects that: 2 years on LEDs, 1 year on the power supply.
We can do brushed, mirror, PVD, powder coated, custom patterns. We can fabricate 3D letters up to any size, though over 2.5 meters we’ll recommend 5mm+ acrylic instead of standard 3mm. We can integrate any color temperature from warm 3000K to cool 6500K. We can’t guarantee a 3-day turnaround on a complex order with custom finishes. We can’t ship a full container tomorrow — lead times stack. But if you tell us your real deadline, we’ll be upfront about whether we can hit it.
Here’s what nobody tells you: specifying the right LED color temperature transforms a sign. A corporate office lobby with 4000-5000K neutral white looks crisp and professional. Use 3000-3500K warm white for hospitality — restaurants and hotels need that inviting glow. 6000-6500K cool white works for industrial and highway signage. I’ve had contractors order the wrong temperature, and the sign looked completely off. They blamed the design, but it was the light.
I’ve seen this go wrong: a property manager sent us a JPG logo from their website and expected it to translate into a fabricated metal sign. We need vectors — AI, EPS, or CDR files. Without clean artwork, the laser cut is approximate, and the result looks amateur. Tell your graphic designer to send the original files.
Another lie: “All our signs are tested for 24 hours.” I run an 8-12-hour aging test on every sign, because that’s enough to weed out infant failures. A 24-hour test in a factory that’s trying to ship 200 signs a day? That’s either a bottleneck or a lie. We are honest about what we test.
Send us your design files in vector format. Specify material grade (304, 316, aluminum, brass), thickness, finish, and if it’s illuminated, the LED color temperature.
