The word "wholesale" gets abused worse than a rental forklift. Some online sellers mark up retail 80% then call 60% off wholesale. That's still retail with extra steps.
Here's what nobody tells you: a real factory-direct price on a stainless steel letter runs $15-40 per piece, non-lit. That's not a typo. The same letter installed by a US sign shop retails for $200-700. Your savings come from cutting out three layers of middlemen, not from magic metal.

Stainless steel 304 is the default for outdoor signs. For exterior building signs, start with stainless steel letters — 304 if inland. It'll last 10+ years. It's got 18% chromium and 8% nickel, density 7.93 g/cm³. We use 1.0-3.0mm sheet. For a strip mall in Ohio, that's your sign.
If the job is within five miles of salt water, spec 316 stainless. It adds 2-3% molybdenum, runs 15+ years marine grade, and costs 20-30% more. I've seen contractors order 304 for a Miami Beach hotel because "stainless is stainless." Rookie mistake. Rust spots showed up in two years, and the property manager blamed the installer.
For interior multi-tenant office parks, aluminum letters are the workhorse. They weigh one-third of steel, naturally rust-proof, and we cut them from 1.0-1.6mm sheet. You get 8-12 years outdoor, longer indoor. Finishes: anodized, powder coated, or brushed.
Hotel lobby or law firm? brass letters carry the luxury look. But brass needs clear coat maintenance every few years, and nobody tells the client that. I do. Budget for it.
Here's the acrylic thing, because it shows up on metal signs as faces or inlays. UV-resistant acrylic from Mitsubishi or Degussa transmits 90-92% of light and stays clear for 5-8 years. Domestic acrylic starts yellowing in 1-2 years. If your sign face spans over 2.5 meters, use 5mm or thicker. Order 2mm to save $40 and it'll bow in the first summer heat. Seen it happen on a Texas storefront.
