Most business owners say they need a "sign." They don't know if that means front-lit channel letters, back-lit halo letters, metal letters, or a light box. Those products have different prices and different failure points.
A front-lit channel letter is the storefront standard. From us, front-lit channel letters run $20-80 per letter factory. A US installer will charge you $200-700 per letter installed. That's the gap.
back-lit halo letters cost $35-120 per piece from us. Retail installed runs $400-1,000. Halo looks premium because the light reflects off the wall, so your mounting surface better be clean.
If you need a metal look that survives a decade outside, stainless steel letters cost $15-40 per piece factory. No LEDs, no acrylic face, just metal. It's the most durable option, but it doesn't light up at night.
Acrylic light transmittance matters more than thickness. Imported UV-resistant acrylic from Mitsubishi or Degussa lasts 5-8 years outdoors. Domestic acrylic yellows in 1-2 years. That's not an opinion, it's what we see on returns.
Stainless 304 has 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It gives you 10+ years outside. Common thickness runs 1.0-3.0mm, with brushed #4, mirror #8, PVD, or powder coat finishes.
For coastal or industrial air, use 316 stainless. It contains 2-3% molybdenum and lasts 15+ years. The price premium is 20-30% over 304. A strip mall in Ohio can save the money. Miami Beach should pay for 316.
Here's what nobody tells you: some sign shops sell 304 as "marine grade." Ask for the mill certificate. No molybdenum on the sheet, no marine grade claim.
SMD 2835 is the industry standard, pushing 100-150 lumens per watt. SMD 5050 handles RGB. SMD 5730 gives 40-60 lumens per chip, which is the highest brightness per chip.
Quality modules from Samsung, Osram, or Blueview last 5+ years real world. Cheap no-name modules fail in 12-18 months. I've watched half a sign go dark because someone chased the lowest quote.
L70 means 50,000 hours until the LED drops to 70% brightness. That's a lab number. We run every sign through an 8-12 hour aging test before it ships. That catches early failures, not year-five failures.
Color temperature is often more important than brightness. 3000-3500K warm suits hospitality. 4000-5000K neutral works for corporate and retail. 6000-6500K cool is for industrial or highway jobs. Pick wrong and a steakhouse looks like a gas station.
The ugly truth is most cheap LED spec sheets are printed, not tested. I've seen a module labeled 50,000 hours fail in 14 months because the buyer didn't ask which LED brand was inside. If your supplier can't name the brand, walk.
CE marking costs 20,000-50,000 RMB and takes 2-8 weeks. Most factories say they have it. The ugly truth is many certificates are expired or don't match the product you're buying.

UL 48 is the US electrical standard. It costs $4,000-15,000, takes 4-9 months, and requires quarterly audits. ETL is a cheaper alternative, usually 10-30% less. If you need UL, budget both money and lead time.
IP65 means dust-tight and protected against water jets. It's the minimum for outdoor signs. IP66 handles powerful jets, good for coastal weather. IP68 is submersible, which is overkill unless your sign floods regularly.
I've seen this go wrong: a buyer ordered IP65 signs for a beachfront property and expected hurricane survival. IP65 doesn't mean wind-rated, and it doesn't mean the sign won't fill with salt spray over years.

US Section 301 tariff on signs is roughly 30%. A $100 letter from us costs about $130 landed before shipping. Don't forget that when you compare quotes.
I've seen this go wrong: a customer chose FCL sea freight to save $600, then paid $1,800 in warehousing and drayage because they didn't have a customs broker lined up. Sea freight is cheap on paper, not always in reality.

Acrylic face CNC takes one day. LED assembly takes one to two days. Sealing with neutral silicone takes one day. Then an 8-12 hour aging test, 100% QC inspection, and export packaging with foam, carton, and plywood crate. Total is 7-15 days.
We can hit that lead time on most orders. But if you want a custom 3D fabricated shape with powder coat and UL approval, add weeks. We won't promise a deadline we can't keep.
We can't do site surveys or installation. We're a factory in Lu'an, Anhui, not a sign shop in Dallas. We can't know your local code or pull your permits. We can build to your specs, but you or your contractor own the sign-off.
We can't make domestic acrylic last like Mitsubishi. If you insist on the cheapest material, I'll take the order, but I'll write on the invoice that yellowing in 1-2 years is expected. That's the trade-off.
