Stainless steel letters are the outdoor workhorse. 304 stainless is 18% chromium, 8% nickel, and gives you 10+ years outside in normal conditions. Density is 7.93g/cm³. Common thickness is 1.0-3.0mm. If you're near salt water or industrial fallout, step up to 316 stainless. It adds 2-3% molybdenum and costs 20-30% more, but it'll last 15+ years. For a strip mall in Ohio, 304 is fine. For Miami Beach, pay for 316 or you'll be redoing it in five years.
Our stainless steel letters run $15-40 per letter depending on size and finish. Brushed #4 is the most common. Mirror #8 shows every fingerprint. PVD coated gives you a brass or black look without the brass price.
The ugly truth is that LED lifespan numbers are mostly fiction. Every spec sheet says L70 ≥50,000 hours. That's lab conditions, not a sign baking on a south-facing wall in Phoenix. Quality modules from Samsung, Osram, or Blueview will give you 5+ years of real outdoor life. Cheap modules die in 12-18 months. Then you're paying a bucket truck to replace them.
We use SMD 2835 as our standard for white channel letters because it delivers 100-150 lumens per watt and doesn't create hotspots. SMD 5730 pushes 40-60 lumens per chip and is our go-to when customers want maximum brightness. SMD 5050 is the one you need if you want RGB color changing.
Color temperature matters more than brightness. 3000-3500K warm white suits restaurants and hotels. 4000-5000K neutral reads corporate and retail. 6000-6500K cool white is for industrial and highway work. Pick the wrong temperature and the sign feels cheap even if the materials aren't.

We don't skip the aging test. That's where dead power supplies and bad solder joints show up. I'd rather find them in Anhui than have you find them on a ladder in Ohio.
Look, shipping is where the "50-65% savings" gets real or evaporates. Small orders ship express, 7-15 days, $30-100 for a small box. Air freight takes 10-20 days at $4-12 per kilogram. Sea freight takes 50-70 days at $80-200 per cubic meter for LCL, or $1,200-3,000 for a full container. Then you add the 30% Section 301 tariff on most signs.
For large outdoor business signs, a full crate by sea is usually the math that works. But if you need a single channel letter for a rush job, express it. We package everything in foam, double-wall carton, then plywood crate. Large letters get steel strapping.

CE marking costs 20,000-50,000 RMB and takes 2-8 weeks. Most factories say they have it. Ask to see the certificate with today's date. I've caught suppliers with a CE cert from a random agency that means nothing for electrical safety.
For outdoor signs, IP65 is the minimum. That means dust-tight and protected from water jets. IP66 handles powerful jets, good for coastal or exposed sites. IP68 is for submersible—not something a storefront sign needs unless your client is opening a shop in a swimming pool.
ADA signs are a different beast. Tactile letters need 48-60" mounting height, non-glare finish, and Grade 2 Braille. We can make them, but don't ask for them unless you've read the local code. We won't guess.
