Factory Direct Stainless Steel Letters Wholesale Price Per Letter
📚 Part of our Metal Signage Complete Guide Read the full guide →

Look, I've been on the factory floor for 16 years. I've welded stainless letters, burned my hands on hot acrylic, and argued with suppliers over LED quality. If you're comparison shopping for stainless steel letters wholesale price per letter factory direct, you don't want a sales pitch. You want real numbers and a straight answer.

Good. Keep reading.

The Real Wholesale Price Per Letter

Here's what nobody tells you: wholesale stainless steel letters from a factory in China cost $15-40 per letter for non-illuminated. That range assumes 304 stainless, 1.2-2.0mm thickness, standard heights between 12 and 24 inches, and a brushed or mirror finish. Push the size up, thicken the material, or spec 316, and the price climbs. Anyone quoting you $8 per letter is selling 201 stainless or paper-thin 0.6mm that rusts in two years.

So where does the spread come from? Mostly height and material thickness.

A 10-inch letter in 1.0mm 304 with a brushed finish sits near $15. A 24-inch letter in 2.0mm mirror or PVD hits $35-40. Add deep 3D fabricated returns, and you're into $40-120 territory if the design has channels and returns. That's just the nature of metal work.

Our stainless steel letters start at $15 for small basic non-lit. But I'll tell you when to pay more in a second.

What Changes the Price Per Letter

  • Height. A 12" letter takes less material and less labor than a 30" letter. Price scales with surface area.
  • Material grade. 304 is the workhorse, good for 10+ years outdoors. 316 marine grade costs 20-30% more. For a strip mall in Ohio, 304 is fine. For Miami Beach, pay for 316.
  • Thickness. Common is 1.0-3.0mm. We recommend 1.5mm for letters under 18", 2.0mm for 18-36", 3.0mm for anything over 3 feet or in high wind.
  • Finish. Brushed #4 is standard and cheapest. Mirror #8 adds labor. PVD gold or black adds cost and lead time. Powder coated adds a day and about $5-10 per letter.
  • Mounting. Studs, pads, and templates are usually extra. Ask before you order, not after.

Look, I've had customers send me a photo and ask "how much?" I can't quote without knowing finish and thickness. That's like asking a builder what a house costs without telling him the square footage.

We're Aochuang Sign in Lu'an, Anhui. 3,000m² production floor, 50+ skilled workers, shipping worldwide. CE, RoHS, ISO 9001. MOQ is 1 piece. Lead time 7-15 days. Warranty 2 years on LED, 1 year on power supply. That matters when you're reselling and your client asks what happens in 2 years.

How Not to Get Burned

The ugly truth is most factories say they have CE. Ask for the certificate with today's date. CE marking costs 20,000-50,000 RMB and takes 2-8 weeks. If they can't show it, they're guessing. Same with ISO 9001. I've seen shops buy "CE certified" signs that failed inspection in Europe. Don't be that guy.

I've seen this go wrong: a contractor ordered 40 stainless letters without specifying finish. Shop used mirror #8 because it was in stock. Client wanted brushed to avoid glare on a medical building. Nobody checked. The redo cost $2,300 and three weeks. Always specify finish, thickness, and mounting in writing.

Here's what nobody tells you: half the "factories" on Alibaba are trading companies. They take your money, mark up 30%, and call a shop like ours. Ask for a photo of the production floor with a dated sign. Ask for their ISO certificate number and check it. A real factory has no problem showing you.

What We Can and Can't Do

We can make any size, any thickness from 1.0 to 3.0mm, any standard finish, and custom mounting patterns. We TIG weld, grind, polish, and run 100% QC before packing. Foam, carton, plywood crate. We've shipped worldwide, and I can count on one hand the damage claims.

We can't give you UL 48 listing unless your project pays for it. UL 48 costs $4,000-15,000 and takes 4-9 months with quarterly audits. We do CE and work to NEC Article 600, but UL is a project-specific certification. If your client requires UL, say so up front. We can produce to UL standards, but certification is on the UL file holder.

We also don't do cheap 201 stainless. You ask for it, we'll say no. It rusts in 12-18 months, and your name goes on it. Not worth it.

Stainless vs. Other Metals

If you're on a budget and need something lightweight, aluminum letters run $10-25 per letter and are naturally rust-proof. But they don't have the weight or premium feel of stainless. If your client wants that bright, architectural metal look that lasts a decade plus, stainless is the answer.

Stainless steel letters are usually non-lit. If you want the premium look with light spilling off the wall, that's our back-lit halo letters. Those run $35-120 per letter factory direct. Different product, different price, different install.

Shipping and Tariffs

Factory-direct savings are 50-65% off US retail installed prices. US shops charge $200-700 per letter for front-lit. Stainless non-lit is cheaper, but nobody quotes less than $100 installed. We ship factory direct at $15-40 per letter. Do the math.

Shipping is where newbies get burned. Express is $30-100 for small orders and takes 7-15 days. Air freight runs $4-12/kg and 10-20 days. Sea freight is $80-200/m³ LCL or $1,200-3,000 for a full container, 50-70 days. If you're ordering 50 small letters, LCL sea freight makes sense. If you need one sign next week, express.

US Section 301 tariff on Chinese sign products is roughly 30%. If you're importing to the US, factor that into your landed cost. We'll help with paperwork, but we can't make tariffs disappear.

How to Compare Quotes Like a Pro

  • Ask for material grade (304 or 316).
  • Ask for thickness in mm.
  • Ask finish: brushed #4, mirror #8, PVD, powder coat.
  • Ask included: mounting studs, template, packaging.
  • Ask lead time and shipping terms (EXW, FOB, CIF).
  • Ask for certification documents.

If a quote doesn't list those six things, it's not a real quote. It's a guess.

Final Word from the Factory Floor

I've watched sign shops pay $800 for a front-lit letter. Same 304 stainless, same Samsung LEDs. We ship that letter for $120. Stainless non-lit is even simpler. $15-40 per letter. MOQ 1 piece. Lead time 7-15 days.

You want to trust a factory? Hold us to the numbers in this article. Ask for our CE and ISO certificates with today's date. Ask for a production photo. Order one sample piece before you commit to 200. We do that all the time.

One last thing. I've seen this go wrong too many times: buyers order without confirming mounting. Stainless letters need studs or pads or a backer panel. If your installers aren't ready for the weight, you're in trouble. Tell us where it's going, and we'll spec the mounting with you. No charge for the conversation.
